The Atrato River (Rio Atrato)

The Atrato river cuts through the Darien Gap, the rugged tropical jungle that straddles the border region between Panama and Colombia.

The Darien is a virtual no-man’s land — a harsh and unforgiving place connecting the North and South American continents.  The jungle is largely devoid of permanent human civilization, and is extremely difficult to navigate without expertise and guidance.

The Atrato winds through the Darien, and provides adventuring travelers safe passage through dangerous terrain.
